Getting, Installing, & Activating Your JavaScript Navbar

  1. Go to http://dir.webring.com

  2. Log in using your user ID.

  3. Click on "My Rings" (in the upper right portion of the page).

  4. Click on "View Ring Sites" (in the left column of the page).

  5. Click on the Site Title of your page in that webring.

  6. Confirm that the page you registered is the page you place the code on. The code must go on the registered page.
  7. If the page is not correct, or to change the page name or description, you can do all that now

  8. Click "Submit".  (do not get the navigation code from here, read on for details)

  9. Now click the back button on your browser.

  10. Now Click "Get Navigation Code". (Due to an error in the system, getting the code from any other page than this, will result in the code being wrong.) (Don't close the webring window yet.)

  11. Copy all of the code, and paste this into the HTML of your registered page, in the location you wish the navbar to appear (usually at the bottom of your page). Save, and upload your page.

  12. Go back to your open webring window, and click the back button on your browser.

  13. Click "Test" (under URL listed for your web page.)

  14. If the system comes back as "Pass", (most will) then you have done everything right. If  not, you need to start over to correct the code. Redirect pages, do not work, and frames can often cause problems.

Problems With Your Code

There are several common causes of this:

  1. The Code Was Copied Incorrectly.
Sometimes a new user copies the code by manually typing it instead of using the copy and paste method. Any character that is mistyped can cause problems.

  2. The Registered Page Changed.
Members sometimes change the registered URL. When the registered URL is changed, you must get the new correct code for that URL as described above..
  3. A System Glitch.
Occasionally a site fails or is suspended because of a system glitch. If you have checked, and are sure your code is correct, and on the correct page, just be patient for a day or two while the system catches up.
  4. Help With Groups or Community Pages
  5. Free Sites, and Online Page Builders can cause problems as well.
For help with these types of problems check here

If you still cannot insert the code because of your hosting provider, then consider moving your site to our preferred, free or low cost hosting providers here
